Motion inputs are absolutely a barrier to fighting games. My issue, though, comes from the idea that a 'barrier' is inherently bad. Being scary is a barrier that will stop people enjoying Alien, but it wouldn't be a better film for being less scary. Finger pain is a barrier to learning guitar, but if you really want to do it you just tough it out for a couple of weeks until it stops. To me, the idea that things which ask less of a person are inherently better is not a good mindset.
