Attrition also counts for material. Sure Russia can build new equipment but even the loss of old equipment puts it at risk of being attacked by China. If this war was quick and easy with full success being the conquest of Ukraine/Belarus(likely if they won in Ukraine). then they would have preserved more equipment for a future conflict with either NATO or China. Which ever one is more likely to occur in the future. As it currently stands Russia cannot even spare excess AA/AAA for its allies and has been pulling them from the east. If this war goes on for another 2 years then there will not be any more rust buckets of equipment from there Soviet supply depots anywhere in the country. All of this makes it more vulnerable if NATO finds hard counters for missiles that it fears and ICBM's that we know there are no full proof counters.
Now it looks like they cant even finish off Ukraine so how will they build up enough material to even counter a NATO invasion if we so choose to do it on our own accords before Russia has that material to do it on there own time table.
