Let's talk about song covers. How often do you find covers/utawakus where vtubers perform a song better than the original artists? Of course, you'll find a lot of covers that's just "good" or "great". But think more about a performance which done in such a brilliant way, they somehow managed to unlock the song's full potential, or even bring it to another level. Here are some of them that i was lucky enough to stumble upon:
>Wine Red no Kokoro ( ワインレッドの心 ) covered by Tokusari Kukuri ( 戸鎖 くくり )
One of timeless gems composed by Anzen Chitai ( 安全地帯 ), the original version of this one goes as far back to...1983!

Of course, the song was performed in a classic 80s style. Both the instrument and the vocal fits perfectly with the moment they're living in. About 40 years later though, where even songs from the 90s are considered to be prehistoric, a certain digital entity dug up a fossil and casted necromancy in unexpected way.
( Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CdJDOCbfhg&t=3747s ) the volume is kinda low, you may need to turn your volume all the way up
It may sound simple at the beginning. Just vocal accompanied by piano... but the way she performed it makes this song as if it's an entirely different thing. She even captured melodies which previously aren't portrayed in the original performance, giving the song a new shape. Not to mention all the improvisations here and there, perhaps it's a little exaggerated to say this, but i felt like i'm watching an accoustic broadway singing in a huge opera.
>Non-breath Oblige ( ノンブレス・オブリージュ ) covered by Minase ( 水無瀬 )
So this one was "sung" by Hatsune Miku, and originally composed by PinocchioP

Anyone who's been into the utaite scene from 2010s are familiar with the leek idol's robotic voice. It's well known that you're gonna have a hard time converting stiff, robotic melodies into a "consumable" human voice cover. So many utaite have done it in the past, and they've nailed it. Perhaps it's also why so many people are impresssed with their performance. But this one is on an entirely new level.

By the comments alone, you could tell that a lot of girls probably creamed themselves over Minase's ASMR-ish voice. But that's not all. From the way he sang it, you could probably notice that the voice and the BGM have subtly switched place with each other. So his voice, the supposed melody, becomes the instrumentals, and the instrumentals, the supposed BGM, becomes the main melody. Accompanied by pretty art and animation, this cover is not only a relaxing ear massage, but also a satisfying eye candy.
So what do you think? Ever felt like you've witnessed similar experiences? Feel free to share.
