Please tell me Japan has underground comics, that it's not ALL the same generic line art and plot beats. Please tell me there are mangaka who aspire to more than sales, who are trying to weave culture and philosophy into this tired artform. Please. I don't want to believe all of Japan its squandering talent on the narrative equivalent of action-adventure video games.
