Romance in this series is so weird. FES was like a dating sim game with love bombs with jealousy and multiple mechanics based around keeping your girl happy until rank 10. P4 removed elements of it with adding more scenes for exclusive dates across the story and heartbreaking rejections. P5 is weird since it doesn't add much outside the gift system with removing all negative mechanics. It's something that is very small all things considered but has made too many waifufags go berserk about it's implications.
