Which kicks off WACky WAC realignment, with five members of ASUN joining the WAC, which will now take on the "United Athletic Conference" name. The seven schools remaining in ASUN are the non-football schools. This is similar to how the Big East-AAC split happened.
The realignment is happening with the blessing of ASUN as the main reason for not simply merging is this way each conference gets to retain an auto-bid into the NCAA basketball tournament instead of there being just one auto-bit for the merged conference.
Previously UAC was a single sport (football) conference but now with it being subsumed by the WAC, UAC will be an all-sport conference.
