The man doesn't refute that Jesus was adopted and doesn't even refute that Jesus is in fact entitled to the throne and blessings of the House of David through adoption.

The fact that Jesus wasn't a biological son of Joseph doesn't change anything anyhow because Jesus was also entitled to the throne through Mary's geneaology.
Jesus is covered through both Joseph and Mary so as to leave no doubt that Jesus is the Son of David any way you cut it.
