They make these really huge life long decisions and don't even bother to do the most basic research on it.

I have heard that shit said by multiple people. How can you buy a home without even figuring out whether the land ownership is included?
Maybe it's because people have been so detached from any real life consequences for so long, that they seriously think nothing bad can happen to them.
