Sudan is a Muslim country that severely represses its population. One of George Bush's little known accomplishments was getting the southern part of Sudan that's most Christian to become independent. The new state of South Sudan is one of the poorest in the world, but it does have oil. Sudan of course declared war on South Sudan almost as soon as it gained independence but so far South Sudan has been able to fight off Sudan, with the help of the US and the west.
