Maybe Christianity will never flourish again the way it did in antiquity but religion is and will always be important to civilization as it's the most "humane" way to control midwits. You see, natural human society is divided in 3 classes, the normies, the midwits and the sigmas. Religion's 2 main purposes in antiquity was to help us cope with the fact we all die and to keep midwits at bay.
