A fun bit of trivia about the Roman toga
Originally it was just simply clothing, a means to cover the otherwise naked body. Featuring no seams, it is just a piece of cloth, about all that was possible in the early days of civilisation.
But as the world advanced, regular tunics became more and more popular and the old toga became "formal wear" which you would only wear for business, court, senate, weddings, etc.
People came to bemoan the uncomfortable nature of the toga, how heavy it was, cumbersome to hold, easy to get dirty, etc.
And eventually the toga became so formal that the only time you would ever wear it, is when you were dead, and your corpse was dressed in a toga.
