I remember being on 4chan for the early ps3 info. People were clowning on this controller so much

being able to record your own gaming was pretty uncommon, so personal frag videos / gifs weren't really a thing.
But people that COULD record their gaming and could edit it got a lot of undue respect on forums. Making yourself look good with well-edited montages made people believe you were a god lol.
A big difference between back then and now is how everything is well understood. Gaming has become so much more scientific. Back then it was like medieval times where you could just convincingly claim to be a genius medicine man with nothing to back it up. Perfect examples would be all the fake gaming rumors or going further back, stuff like Todd Rogers.
