Why do mainstream politicians celebrate this man? Stauffenberg was not against the political ideas of Adolf Hitler. He wanted the war against the Soviet Union to continue, and wanted Germany to gain land in the East. He just thought that if he killed Hitler, the West would negotiate with him, Germany would make some concession and then continue the war in the East.
Reality however was much different, Stauffenberg and the other plotters were extremely naive, maybe that's why they like this guy so much? Hitler said this after the attack
>"Yes, you know, Bodenschatz, people ask me a lot today what I think about the assassination, what I think about political murder. I don't reject it one hundred percent! I can also understand that it is necessary to remove a statesman if the situation of a nation requires it and a people can have a better future after the removal of the ruler. I know that Stauffenberg, Goerdeler and Witzleben believed they could save the German people through my death. But so far we have only been able to establish one thing: these people had no firm plan at all about what they wanted to do afterwards. They had no idea which army would support their putsch, which military district command would help them! Even the most obvious thing, a connection with the enemy, they had not managed to accomplish. Yes, I even learned that the enemy had rejected offers to negotiate. Remember, Bodenschatz, German soldiers are fighting a bitter battle on the eastern front. Almost 9 million. And just imagine the effect! It would have been a war of everyone against everyone else, a fratricidal war in the German army, and the Russians alone would have been the laughing stock. Because he would have taken terrible spoils. You see, Bodenschatz, in my eyes, that alone is the crime of the assassins!"
