I downscale to 1024 as a final step since more won't fit on my screen, the gens still look better with upscale and second AI pass before shrinking back down. Because of the 4-channel VAE the "effective" resolution is much lower than the 1024 you gen at. NAI should be able to get a lot closer, but only a lossless VAE or genning in pixel space can produce full detail without upscaling.
