Ok fair enough, I'll try to not make it too long winded.
>Be Me
>Absent dad
>lazy mom
>Low income housing
>Typical white trash dreg of society, born to fail
>Too poor for cable
>I dont remember specifically when, but I started watching travel documentaries on PBS, things like globetrekker and Rick Steve's Europe
>Really loved these programs, would watch these over the Simpsons
>Some places looked very interesting and cool compared to what I was surrounded by.
>would watch other stuff like ww2 documentaries too
>I would walk to the library when my mom was asleep and ask about books for different countries and history
>By the time I hit middle school I really wanted to see the world and learn about it.
>I know i wasn't very smart, or that my mom would be able to support me or encourage me
>Made a promise to myself that if I can graduate high school, something my mom or dad never did, I can have a chance to get a better job than them and maybe see the country and the world.
>Long story short, graduate high school, still kinda dumb so join the Army, get to see different states, go to Germany, Italy and Iraq.
>Get out and use my benefits to get training and get a traveling job.
>have been to every state except Hawaii and Alaska, multiple national parks, been to Mexico, Spain and Canada, saving up to maybe go hiking in France this fall:)
>All this because PBS showed me that there is a bigger place than my shitty single wide in the desert.
Sorry for all the words, i know im just one person, but I do think PBS did put me on a path for good.
