In the finale Nier sneaks into (Your) room still uneasy and you sleep together holding hands, but when she wakes up in the mourning she's calm, she then finally acknowledges who's she been but recognizes that she's changed, rather than loving anyone she's now in love with someone, Death seems to be a cuckqean, to bookend it Nier swears the same pledge she did with Death and her clothes transforms into the same dress, it seems to end on a solely happy note until Nier is revealed to still ultimately hold the same warped affection swearing she'll never ever let (You) go. The end is in many ways the standard incremental character shift Grub tends to do but it's probably the best execution they've done of it.
