I woke to the wail of emergency sirens. The lights outside of my cryopod pulsed crimson, a dirge in rhythm and color, and for a moment I could not breathe. The glass of the cryopod, diamond-threaded and nearly indestructible, still held fast, but the door… the door had been nearly torn from its frame. Something had tried to get inside. Something inhumanly strong.

A shiver traced the line of my spine. I told myself it was just the cryo-damp. But I knew better.
