i've almost died due to lack of oxygen a couple times. the panic is extremely real, but once you reach a certain point there's a very, very strange serenity that takes over. it's actually impossible to describe but it was the single most peaceful moment of calm i've ever felt in my life, i had a sort of out-of-body experience
