Was Phainon actually fighting the Chrysos Heirs as Titans?

Let us set aside the out-of-universe explanation of "The developers needed to reuse assets due to budget concerns."

During the replays of some of the previous cycles, we see Phainon confronting the other Chrysos Heirs, who appear to transform into Titans. Phainon claims that Hyacine is corrupted by the Black Tide, and this is presumably why Hyacine fights as the Black Tide version of the Eye of Twilight.

Did that actually happen, though, or was Phainon in such a disturbed mental state that he hallucinated them as Titans once they stood against him? Was that specific version of Hyacine at that point in time corrupted by the Black Tide, or was Phainon jumping to conclusions and making post-hoc rationalizations?

We see glitchy special effects, and even Phainon clutching his head in distress:

It is reasonably in-character for Mydei to aggressively, gladly accept a challenge of combat, but Castorice and Hyacine speak in an oddly out-of-character, hostile tone. Is it possible that these hostile tones are also a product of Phainon's distorted perceptions?

During these moments, he might have even approached and fought them not as Phainon, but as the Flame Reaver.

I do not know. I am having a hard time interpreting what "really" happened during these scenes from past cycles. I could be dead wrong. What do you think?
