I genuinely do not believe that he was. He was there for cheap Ukrainian tobacco and loose Ukrainian hookers. Plus he had a youtube channel where he ran his mouth about stuff. It was this which ended up getting himself murdered. He was there before the war broke out btw, so he wasn't there because of it. But when it started he forgot he was no longer in a free speech country and that was his undoing.
