NTA but I agree with you. It always annoys the shit out of me when my family criticizes me for using the word "they" to refer to one person or character. Like I remember people saying they for all my life, but then about 5 or maybe 10 years ago, suddenly people act like that was never an accepted usage of the word and that I'm either making it up or am being manipulated to use it. Like don't give me that, I know for a fact you used to say it too and now *you* are being manipulated to think it's a fucking sin or something.
