>What sorts of technologies do you make up or focus on when it comes to mechs?
Obvious energy source/storage, cooling, repairing lubricant for the joints and any moving parts really, and a generous helping of handwavium alloys that make up the frame, the hull, and the armor plating.
Imo anything beyond that should tie into the setting.
I.e. hardlight structural elements or (melee) weapons if the setting has it. Or a nanofluid that performs cooling, energy supply, repair, and lubrication functions.
Or a gravity-manipulating particle, upon which relies the power source, and which allows the mech weighing a few tons to prance around like a ballerina.
Same goes for the forcefield projection and manipulation, and their use for shielding, propulsion, weapon systems, or climate control.
