This happened a fair bit between the Hispanics and the Blacks. Asians and Whites always got along and didn't really engage with the bullying and racism stuff that the others did.
There was certainly segregation, but more so along the lines of advanced and on-level classes. My AP classes were primarily White and Asian with a few token browns and blacks scattered in. My on level classes generally reflected the overall demographics of the school.
