The more I think about it the dumber bill's setup at the town is in the show, it makes no sense compared to the game iteration (which is essentially morgan's town from TWD, filled to the brim with traps and corpses every two feet from years of constant neurotic nesting and attrition)
In the show it's just a normal town with a magical boundary fence, the entire narrative bends in service to the characters so they somehow subsist there for decades without any organized group simply shooting them when they walk outside, or ramming a car through the fence or besieging the enclosed area from any side.
There's a single incident where Bill gets non-lethally wounded so his buttplay pet can pretend to be useful, then it timeskips ahead to geriatric age where they romantically kill themselves together and somehow nobody strips the place clean or re-occupies it until after Joel and Ellie get there. I want worldbuilding with sincerity, why the hell wouldn't FEDRA immediately notice an independent town held by one or two people and claim imminent domain or try to vassalize it or something? It's like the movie 28 years later, you have to turn your brain off to absorb the epic deep symbolism and characterization because the writers couldn't manage to outwit ZOMBIE fans when tripping over themselves to write trite love stories
