Not to dispute the dominance of Western Europe and Blue Banana in particular, but Murray's book uses a terrible methodology largely based on his own layman's feels about the importance and influence of this discovery or that person. As a mathfag I found his math timeline pretty funny and absurd at time, can't imagine how he mangled less rigid disciplines.
