The forest around your home looked intimidating now that you knew why, exactly, something like this grew so much in the fields of southeastern Eichenwald. The woods are thick and clumped together with no big trees to be seen, only good for firewood or kindlings. Critters are the only thing you'll find in there.
''Kinda regretting not stopping for a bite now.'' Rikard had a rare moment of complaint as you walked the final road to your home.
''Mister was too eager to go back to mom huh?'' Your stomach audibly churns as you speak.
''Absolutely, one night away from her is one too much. Can you play your flute while I try my best to sing a serenade? We need to make this grand return worth it.'' He's never been good at making jokes but he sure manages to nail looking amazingly smug while failing to be witty.
Pfft. ''Dad, come on. She'll flee into the forest in embarrassment, especially since we have guests.'' You're not at all confident with a bigger audience. Sure, you did play for a handful of ears yesterday but that was a fluke.
The sight of your cabin and your home gives you a flutter in your steps, your enthusiasm is quickly replaced by surprise.
Further up the field of your home is a big hole being filled by your mother, Canaan, and your blue guest, Shigeko, armed with shovels, taking dirt from a filled wheelbarrow. Further up in the distance is a felled tree with the distinctive white silhouette of Seyraphal cutting branches with a hatchet, creating a small pile of discarded wood as she slowly but surely works on removing the obstructions.
The tree has been ripped instead of cut. Like those moments you broke a few pencils with your hands, the trunk bore brutal disfigurement. The hole origin was obvious enough: someone pulled out the trunk bare-handed.
''Nice.'' Your father's tone is moderate, artificial. ''Glad to know our talk about making space in our field bore fruits.''
''This is my fault!'' Your mother realizes your presence and comes jogging.
''I'm sorry! I was overeager, this mess is my incompetence!'' Comes the bigger blue woman's quieter reply.
Wow, wow, wow. You can't pay attention to whatever your dad and mom are talking about or worry about the damages because... This blue monster, an Oni, has presence. She came to your home two days ago starved and weak, with nothing more than skins to cover her bones, her height making her lanky and fragile but now? Meats and muscles had returned to give her vitality and undeniable strength. Her mass looked genuinely powerful, with clothing borrowed from your dad that was still too short and small; her shirt ended above her belly button, and the sleeves ended a little past her elbows. Physical activity had torn lines on the sides of her newly acquired pants, and without any fitting shoes, the newly healthy warrior monster walked around barefoot. Her curves strained against your father's clothes, the shirt and pants far too small for her...bounty.
