I hope you see this response, sorry it's so late, but Romania (of all nations!) had a pretty impressive prog band called Phoenix, which is even crazier because Romania was North Korea-tier in the 70's, Ceausescu was infamous for being the only Warsaw Pact head of state who was actually impressed by their tour of Kim Il Sung's Korea

They started as a skiffle band as early as 1962, and they were a modest success under totalitarian Romania's one and only unified state-controlled record label, Electrecord. About 1970, the secret police began harassing them because their skiffle was "too western", after years of letting them fly under the radar as a domestically-produced version of a subversive capitalist trend in music. However, they discovered prog from the west and decided to play into Ceausescu's nationalism, and they eventually teamed up with the Romanian ministry of culture by making a prog double album about animal creation myths from a Romanian perspective! However, shortly thereafter, the secret police caught wind from dissenters that several of the songs on that album were coded messages against the government, and Phoenix's persecution became so severe they they all fled the nation in 1977 by hiding inside Marshall amps after a couple of final farewell concerts. In 1989, the Romanian people came to hate Ceausescu so much that they executed him LIVE BROADCAST ON TELEVISION. The USSR decided not to intervene, and allowed a transfer of power to a non-communist government. After spending a decade and a half in West Germany, they returned to a liberated Romania in 1994, where they still record music and play to this day
