There's basically two big starting points for the series
>Trails in the Sky (First Chapter)
The first game in the Trails series. Very charming graphics, characters and writing. Gameplay is pretty dated though.
It is getting a full modern remake called Trails in the Sky 1st this September.
>Trails of Cold Steel
The first 3D game of the series. The sixth game in the series but deliberately intended as a jumping on point for new players and the story is relatively self-contained. Where I started the series before I went back and played the old ones.
Gameplay is very polished and it clearly takes a few notes from Persona.
