The 70s and 80s had alot of bad movies. There were all those Horror B-Movies, Barbarian slop and “Revenge of the nerds“-copycats.

I am not so sure if it is that higher. But my guess is that back than more movies had a better entertainment value, more movies were you just brain-turn-off. And maybe writers had better classical literature knowledge? But i would say for every past good ones i can find a current good one. And vice versa.
