Started propping up a bunch of """grass roots""" groups calling for X and Y to be banned from the internet.
Eventually blew up into a bunch of very aggressive calls for puritanical laws to be rammed through in a lot of countries, mostly from small groups spamming email inboxes.
Results have been purity laws being slapped into place, Visa and Mastercard being stretched out by bullshit laws saying they're on deck if underage content ends up on a webpage for a fraction of a second, and giving the puritains a big red "THEY'RE SEX TRAFFICKING" button they can slap to slap payment processors with mountains of legal fees even if it's bullshit.
It's recently REALLY blown up because they went after lewd video games and now a bunch of depraved autists are angry, meaning things are about to boil over into a proper shitshow.
