Attached the wrong ship card image, but here's the Tokushima. You'll see that around the art, the ship is divided into four locations, Bow, Starboard, Stern, and Port. These are both your arcs for outgoing shots and incoming damage. Each Location is broken up into six slots. When a ship takes a hit, the hit will randomly hit one of those slots, and possibly destroy it if it punches through the armor. Each slot is a system of some sort, like guns, armor, engines, crew, and stabilizers. Anything not covered in the core rulebook has its rules printed on the back. The white numbers in the brown arrows are the armor level that particular slot has.
The colored circles correspond to dice. A green is a D4, blue is D6, yellow is D8, red is D10, and black is D12. It's a danger scale, bigger dice get a more dangerous color, so the guns contribute that die to the dice pool you roll to attack. Each gun has two values, one for short range and one for long.
I'll let NEA actually handle explaining gameplay, since I've gotta get to a TTRPG session.
