Call me naive, but i don't think there's enough evidence that China intends to uphold an imperial-like presence in the world in the same way that the US and USSR did. All of the things that westerners accuse of being "imperial ambitions" of China for instance in Africa and South America are completely normal foreign investment policies that have (so far) no indication of carrying dominance ambitions.
