I don't think it's fair to assume people are just pretending to enjoy something. I've been reading the City manga for quite a while and am enjoying the anime (though I have my criticisms). I'm just not one of those people who enjoy these cringy generals though (Hidamari Sketch is another series I like, but I also don't post in every one of those threads for the same reason), but people do enjoy them. So I don't go into every thread, but just because people do doesn't mean they're just pretending to enjoy the series.
