Meh, it's not even a real retcon. The stated ages were meant to be the characters' standing inolder material, closer to when they debuted than now. There might be sort of a status quo but time passes in Sonic's world. Birthdays happen. Ageing happens. If adventures and events are on a linear timeline, characters grow up a little from their experiences. Removing the ages is a simple acknowledgement that time passes and profile ages can't be set in stone.
