Kettle hats (the wide brimmed ones) were popular among archers because they give you good protection from above, useful against cavalrt striking down with swords, or counterfire from enemy archers.
The other helmets in this picture (cervelieres and bascinets without visors) were lighter and smaller, so on top of being more comfortable (and a bit cheaper, soldiers had to buy their own gear), they also intefered less with your melee weapons.

And then knights had way more complex and protective helms, since they could afford it and also would be priority targets for enemy archers,n so better protect your face.
