I see so many headlines about how AI did this or that or revolutionised some shit or made some amazing discovery and only lately have I started reading the articles and finding out it's usually some paid for by a bunch of tech bros circlejerking each other and whatever bullshit they're talking about was massively overexaggerated. People say it's not a bubble but that's fucking textbook pre bubble popping behaviour. They don't know how to monetise this shit, you have Samsung nervously hoping people will pay 30 bucks a month for their shitty image editor when the free trial is up, and perplexity telling people their browser will track and profile you excessively to sell ads and you will like it, openai boasting about they made 10 billion in revenue but they're still in the red and builder AI having billions thrown at them by Microsoft themselves and who are now going bankrupt.
AI will stick around, a bubble doesn't mean it goes away forever like the dotcom bubble, but it definitely can't maintain the rate they're burning money.
