You're right some artists do that, although I think they do that for a different reason.
I was wrong when I said they use d/m/y it seems the Japanese use y/m/d (the reverse) while in USA they use m/d/y, so if you want to abbreviate it by removing the year you end up with the same thing (m/d) but through a different process.
Dates are dumb.
