I say I appreciate you or anything like that to my bros when there's a good amount of trust and affection but it's the same as saying "te quiero mucho" which is a more friend exclusive term in my language to me compared to saying "te amo" which is more romantic, the meaning of both of these sadly merge together in English so I'm a bit more careful about it unless they say it first which I usually can tell where the feeling comes from.
However, when it comes to it being about a person I am interested in a more romantic sense, I do tend to be very reserved about it like this anon >>528644708 since I agree a lot that it's something that carries a lot of weight, so I like for it to be something meaningful and very heartfelt.
