This will only matter to those who export to the US. Seems to me this is tailored to use against China. Maybe India but I think not, since Drumpf demanded he be allowed to pick and choose who to use this against. The question is, why does he even need this law in the first place? Since he seemed to have the legal authority and ability to apply and remove tariffs on a whim even before this law. Did he need this law in order to be able to apply tariffs this large?
Anyway, this won't affect countries which don't export much of anything to the US but it could affect Chinese imports.
BUT!
The tariffs will be paid by US buyers. A 500% tariff might be close to high enough to make domestic US production price competitive with Chinese exports. However, this will utterly decimate the purchasing power and living standards of prisoners of the jewnited states of Golemica and is bound to make Drumpf and Lindsay, possibly the entire republican party, highly unpopular. It will make price inflation in the jewnited states of Golemica go off the charts. Suddenly, 95% of the population will be well and truly living in poverty.
In addition to this, this will make the USD scarcer outside of the jewnited states of golemica, because most of the retail price of things will be from this trade tariff.
So it might actually be good for people with income or savings in USD who live OUTSIDE of the jewnited states of Golemica.
Which could mean a retiree / boomer exodus abroad.
Which could mean lowering of housing prices at home by freeing up some supply.
It would also possibly make buying real estate in the jewnited states of Golemica less attractive to foreigners, reducing demand for real estate in the US.
Are these jiggers even contemplating 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th order consequences of something like this?
