The artificial push for sequels has created the need for filler to reach 3 games.
A sequel has some utility to fix the problems of the first game.
Dead Space 2 was good but a bit different.
Mass effect 2 I have my criticisms of but was good.
Age of Empires 2 fixed and improved everything.
Now think of the 3rd game in these franchises.
In movies it is even more present. Blade, Superman, Terminator, Mad Max, Matrix.
A sequel should be looked upon either skepticism but a third games should be avoided wherever possible.
