>“They’re still too young to have experienced a love so immense—something on the level of marriage, or building a family—that they’d be willing to give up Prism Jumps for it.”
I think that would be the interpretation that I would go with in an attempt to reconcile the original statement with the depiction of those specific characters, yeah. Aira and Shoe's initial romance being shallow was a central point of DMF, Rizumu and Hibiki are your stereotypical idiot couple, and Kouji and Ito are specifically framed as a passionate summer romance. Of course, that's just an interpretation and it's being pretty generous towards Hishida, but I think overall that's a pretty reasonable take.
>And really, since Hishida wasn’t the sole creator
And yeah, great point as well, especially with a topic as nuanced as this there's bound to be a wide array of opinions and depictions among the staff about this. While it's easy to ascribe an auteur quality to these works, it just simply isn't an entirely accurate way to interpret these shows since we know in detail that those other influential staff members were hugely consequential as well.
Appreciate the input K*reafriend, interesting perspectives.
