Maekawa only wrote the general plot beats of '06, three different people contributed. It's unfair to blame him for it I'm also 99% sure the decision to pair up Blaze with Silver wasn't his, but he tried to make do with what he had and connect it back to Rush. It unfortunately didn't stick internally though. Silver is also portrayed as less of a loser in JP, Silver being a gay insecure loser is dubslop.
To be fair to people like Evan, good translations of the Japanese script didn't really exist back when she was young. But the fact that it took until like 2024 for her to realize it was off is pretty lame, I don't understand people who don't autistically research their favorite character(s) to make sure they're getting everything right.
Maekawa's fascination with Tanabata-like ships is interesting though, he seems to love good friends who get separated by death/reincarnation. Silver and Blaze / Shadow and Maria have a decent amount in common plot-wise, even if their personalities aren't the same.
