I do think shows like Adventure Time and Gravity Falls were the first shows to truly cultivate and exploit the mechanics of having an online fanbase of rabid low IQ autists and brownoids that squelch any criticism and in their worst cases stamp out any potential competition. Yet while these shows are really praised for their lore or lack of status quo, a second look shows they still fell into many of the same pitfalls as the earlier episodic comedy cartoons they were trying to distance themselves from (ie Phineass and Flop) with tedious will they wont they romances and meaningless fake lore. SvTFOE being the cuckquean of this with an entire book of fucking fake queen lore that amounted to nothing because Star's family was really mutts or something. They sold us the promise of being different but just ended up being more of the same.
It didn't matter though, because as long as you had a few trinket scenes of faux lore/habbenings, as well as a few wumao bot farms to spam them all over the internet, and the creators themselves engaging with fans through social media, the pitfalls and misgivings go entirely ignored. Most other places besides here unanimously praised finales of Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Amflopia, all of which were mid at best. Only SvTFOE was truly so bad of an ending even shills couldn't revitalize it though some superfan holdouts did try.
