if the ICJ rules in cambodia's favor, hun sen declares victory, positioning himself as a national hero to boost his popularity. but even if the court sides with thailand, he uses it to brainwash cambodians, claiming, "see? thailand wants to invade and seize our land. that's why you need the hun family to protect you.'

so a full-scale war will never happen. this is pure political theater, just another nationalist propaganda play they routinely pull with thailand and vietnam. but this time, hun sen desperately needs to boost the popularity. because he recently handed power to his son, hun manet, yet these past two years have been one policy disaster after another. and it’s totally turned people against the hun family in a way he's never seen before.
