I visited Poland when I was 9 years old back in 1977 with my ex-pat parents and my cousin drove us around the country to see all the extended family in his privately owned Polski Fiat taxicab, which had been bought in part with American dollars my parents had secretly sent him, though the money wasn't used to actually buy the car but to bribe government apparatchiks so he could move up the waiting list.
