It's a matter of social stigma, about what society and your community expect from you, rather than what you want for yourself and what you really are. Chiaki doesn't have to play video games, just like Hajime doesn't have to seek a talent. But society has internalized their worth as people based on what they have or lack.
Chiaki was glorified, Hajime was dismissed. Both are seeing the grass as greener on the other side.
Hajime’s identity hasn’t been defined yet, while Chiaki’s value shouldn’t be defined by her talent. I don’t think it’s that hard to understand.
