Soumaya Keynes is a British economist and journalist. She is a current columnist at the Financial Times. Previously, she worked for eight years (some of which as the Britain economics editor) at The Economist magazine. She was a policy adviser for Her Majesty’s Treasury (Queen Elizabeth II) in London, focusing on banking and credit. She has attended World Economic Forum meetings.
Soumaya Keynes is the daughter of Zelfa Hourani and the conservationist Randal Keynes of the elite British Keynes family. Soumaya is the great-great-niece of John Maynard Keynes, a British economist who fundamentally changed the practice of macroeconomics and governmental economic policies through his “Keynesian Economics”. She is also the great-great-great granddaughter of the English biologist Charles Darwin, the founder of evolutionary biology. This makes her a direct descendant of the elite British Darwin-Wedgwood bloodline. Soumaya is also the great-grandniece of Charles Galton Darwin, a president of the British Eugenics Society.
Her maternal grandmother, Furugh Afnan, was the great-granddaughter of Bahá'u'lláh, founder of the Baháʼí Faith, making Keynes a great-great-great-granddaughter of Baha'u'llah.
