Call me crazy but I like the plasticky look, as long as it allows for a lot of detail and looks pretty. I love stuff like normals, speculars, ray tracing, etc, but I don't care much for realism. I'm happy for games to look as close to a high quality 3d animated movie as possible. Games are toys essentially so I'm happy for it to look like a toy box.
