To clarify: demons are best understood through the concept of daemons — a term borrowed from computing. In software, daemons are background processes constantly running, silently responding to inputs like mouse movement or keyboard activity. In much the same way, “demons” — note the spelling — can be seen as symbolic representations of background processes in the human psyche. They are autonomous patterns of thought, emotion, or behavior, functioning much like the RAM or CPU cycles of the mind.

These psychic “demons” are often shaped by fear, uncertainty, and inherited trauma. For example, a demonologist might cultivate a fear of the unknown — "What if this happens?" — in order to sell you security, salvation, or control. Your anxiety becomes a daemon: a persistent, unconscious loop that drains your attention and labor, which is then monetized by a third party.
