Depends entirely on the kind of door. Some do have a bolt on the lock that completely closes things but a lot of doors are like this one. In fact I've found most doors in hardware stores are like this one. The part I circled is the part that locks. The little bolt thing at the back. It's set at a slope so it closes just fine when it's set to lock but blocks you from opening it the opposite way.
